The Closing of FM5280 will truly be a SAD Day... I can truly say without hesitation that FM5280 is by far the BEST overall website I have Ever been to. This station has always maintained the highest standards of content an commitment to quality. I've been to other sites that have emphasized the glitz and glamor but never had the TOTAL package that this station ALWAYS DELIVERED. If any other stations, individuals, or businesses have learned anything about creating a sucessful website, they would do well to follow the example of FM5280.
This is the only place I can honestly say that has generated a sense of community. Ask a question and there was always and answer from Rob or another listener. The music has always been GREAT. Even the extremely rare clunkers created a FUN time because we enjoyed the listening experience.
Rob, Many Thanks for the education in Smooth Jazz. This experience will truly be missed but I can totally understand your reasons. Here's wishing you and Linda the Best In what the Future has to offer.
The Best to You Always... Bruce (merpud1)...

Hey Jolly,
I've got a large library of albums and very FEW are pure gems. You can be listening to an album with great numbers and then the clunker will come out of nowhere. It doesn't even fit the theme of the album.
Imagine this for instance. You are listening to an album with relatively smooth tracks and then then the nightmare from beyond starts up. A polka based song with yodeling. After the shock went away, I just threw the CD in the trash. Bad songs can completely ruin the whole experience. I've always regarded these tracks as FILLER pieces. The style and substance will vary from previous efforts. Some are good but most are yuck. I look for short numbers that can be used as filler pieces to round out a program. Sometimes you do get GEMS. Well, that's enough for now.... Yodel-Lay-He-Who... |

I recently HAD (due to a PC crash) to switch to Windows 7. For the most part, it has a lot of COOL features. It also has its usual share of annoyances that you work around with experience. My first experience came after purchasing my PC and learning about the Home Premium Edition which comes pre-loaded on most PC's. If you have XP based software, they will not work with this edition. I would like to call for your experiences with Windows 7 and post new topics as you use Windows 7 and if it relates to your listening experiences here at FM5280. My first two HINTS are as follows:
If you have an investment in XP based software then get the Windows 7 Pro version of the OS and save yourself a lot of hassles..
When listening to FM5280, deactivate the Windows 7 Gadgets. They can use up a LOT of bandwidth and cause Buffer issues.. I learned this the HARD way.
If you have experienced any Windows 7 quirks, please feel free to mention them. This could save a lot of frustration and get the music started again... |

Hey Rob,
It works really well here. The sound is much clearer, cleaner, and crisper. This is a GOOD enhancement. This is going to greatly improve the listening experience.... Thanks again for your efforts... |

From the looks of it, I get the feeling that Amazon wants to start a grass roots movement to get this legislation repealed with the carrot of re-instating the the program. However, the way they went about it with no prior notice is totally inexcusable. I've shopped CDBaby before and it looks like they will be getting all of my business.
What was Amazon thinking. This high-handed approach by business has to STOP. We as consumers have a right to vote our displeasure. There should have been prior talks with the supporters before making this decision but I get the impression that decisions had already been made and it was not worth the effort. Any time things like this happen, I ask the question of whose interests is this really serving and who is getting paid off to support it. Back in the late 30's, Will Rogers said "We Have the Best Politicians Money Can Buy". I feel this is still true even today..
I support the motion of not doing business with Amazon. |

Threefer Thursday will be revised starting Jan 7, 2010. ONLY Requests will be threefers on thursday.
Normal rotation will will be in effect on Thursday. I will NOT be playing every third artist Threefer as in the past. The orignal idea sounded better than it really turned out. Too many songs got added as part of the threefers plus 2 additonal filler songs.
So now, THREEFER THURSDAY will only apply to requests.
|
The THREEFER idea had definite possibilities. This NEW Twist makes it a Definite Winner.. Great work DJ, you keep making a Great station even BETTER...!! |

I currently use WINAMP 5.5.1 TO LISTEN TO WINAMP. What version of Winamp do you need for Listening to this format. Would AAC really make a difference in my listening experience...? I'm always open for improvement.
Thanks Rob... |

| This is a GREAT NEW feature. I have had more times than I can remember of just missing the chance to rate a song. There have been occasions where I had to be involved with something else and I heard a song that caught my attention. When I had a chance to see what it was, I had missed the chance to Rate it.. This is a feature I will definitely use. Good going Rob. |

I've got a question about Firefox and XP. At home I now have to use
Winamp instead of Windows Media player and I've been getting an irritating issue. The song starts skipping and eventually locks up my computer. Does anyone know what is causing this? I have no issues with
media player at work doing this.
Thanks

Debbe,
I'm using the latest version of Firefox with XP Pro SP3. I also use Winamp version 5.51 and I'm not experiencing any issues. What version of Winamp do you have...???

Hard to say, probably not one of the site visitors. Sometimes the city reported is where your ISP terminates and not where the actual listener is. As time goes on, I've noticed the locations seems to get slightly more accurate.
|
True True.. The listing for my location originally said Raleigh, NC. Finally it says Columbia, SC... |

I just installed the latest version of Firefox - Ver 3.5.2 and it is Fantastic.
The performance and speed are GREATLY Improved.
If some of you are like me, you tend to get comfortable with an application or tool and just use it from one day to the next...
As long as it is working, you take it for granted.
I recently bought a PC magazine that included a CD full of new apps and utilities. When I browsed the Firefox section, it referenced Version 3.5.
In a fit of curiosity, I checked my current browser version, I noticed I was all the way up to Version 3.0.1. (Hmmmm) Curiosity now had me fully in its grip.
Even though, I had a copy on this CD, I went to the Firefox website
( ) and downloaded the most recent version - 3.5.2.
Before installing it, I went to Windows Control Panel and uninstalled my current and OLD version. PLEASE NOTE: During the uninstall, Firefox gives you the option of NOT DELETING your plugins and add-ons. I would highly recommend not deleting them. (I personally thought that was a nice and professional touch that the option was offered). It will save you a lot of hassle if you have all kinds of addons and plugins like I do.
Install is Fast and Efficient. Imagine my surprise when I went to FM5280 and saw how everything loads and performs much faster.
I was totally impressed.
It was definietly worth the effort...
You should notice the benefits during your time on FM5280 ......
Hope this helps.......... |

Forum: Smooth Jazz Discussion Posted: Fri Jun 05, 2009 9:09 am Subject: eMusic Slashing Its Service..... |
For thouse of you who are eMusic subscribers, there is an announcement on the eMusic Homepage that affects ALL eMusic members. Everyone should read it because this definitely affects all subscriptions.
eMusic has entered into an agreement with Sony starting July 23, 2009. Current plan prices will remain the same but the number of downloads are being cut in half. My subscription is being reduced from 65 downloads to 37 and as a result, I sent them an email asking them to explain why this is such a good deal.
Their response was this agreement would offer more mainstream artists and increase the size of the catalog. This is true but at what cost. eMusic's reply wanted to assure me that the Independent Artists and Labels would not suffer. I joined eMusic 5 years ago because it offered such a GREAT selection of Independent and Undiscovered talent. The eMusic email also stated that other subscribers were also concerned that the Independents would suffer from this arrangement but this should not be any concern.
It seems that once again the major labels want to control what we listen to and influence what we buy......
What are your thoughts....???
Is this a good thing or a bad thing...????
